Together with Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, CPJ organized a press conference to discuss the federal government's proposal to expand immigration detention into federal correctional facilities. The use of federal correctional facilities for "high-risk" immigration detentions contradicts the broad interfaith and non-partisan movement (including all provincial governments) to end the abusive practice of immigration detention in Canada. Administrative in nature, immigrant detainees are not held on criminal grounds. A joint report by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International documents numerous human rights violations, particularly against racialized people and those with psychosocial disabilities. CPJ denounces this proposal as it will bring great harm and comes at odds with Canada's international human rights obligationsPlease sign the open letter to express your concerns through the link in our bio! #humanrights #citizensforpublicjustice #justice #cndpoli #migrantrights #publicjustice #CPJ #advocacy #immigrantdetention #canada #injustice #openletter #actnow #immigrationnews
